The “Grey”. I have finished this a couple weeks ago but I didn't have the time to post it here. I'm a huge UFO buff and wanted to give my own twist to this well known design. The challenge was that it's such a simple look an yet it's so much part of our pop culture that you go too far and it might not look like a grey already.
About it's biology: I imagined that not only its eye can move within the sockets, but the surrounding tissue is also two movable separated panel from the skull. The gland sacks at the two sides of it's neck might be natural, or biologically engineered additions for it to be able to adapt to different atmospheres.
When I was working on this piece I came across a Navajo legend by accident. The legend called Tohono O'Odham. It tells the story that in the beginning butterflies could also sing however the songbirds became jealous and complained to the Creator because the butterflies were so beautiful and could sing. The Creator agreed that the songs belonged to the birds and took away the butterflies' ability to sing.
Even though I have never encountered with this legend before I almost finished this piece and therefore has nothing to do with it really, it's quite uncanny how things turn out sometimes when you are "in the zone".
This piece will debut as a limited art print at this weekend's London Film and Comic Con.
Edit: This was one of the most popular pieces at LFCC! All prints sold out! Thank you for everybody who purchased one!
